When you come to Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett to deliver your baby, we share a common goal. We all want the very best for you and your baby. That’s why we are proud to be named the first Baby-Friendly hospital in the Memphis area.
So, what does it mean to be Baby-Friendly? It means that we are committed to following best care practices when it comes to breastfeeding. Our staff members have been trained in the care of breastfeeding moms and their babies and are ready to help make the process as simple as possible. Your baby will be rooming in with you so that he or she is able to breastfeed as soon as they are ready.
Studies have shown that breastfeeding is the optimal feeding and caring method for the health of the baby and the mother. Some of the benefits of breastfeeding include:
Providing your baby with ideal nutrition.
Antibodies in the breastmilk that help the baby fight viruses and bacteria.
A link to higher IQ scores later in childhood according to some studies.
At Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett, we want every mother to understand the benefits of breastfeeding. If that’s the decision you make, we will do our best to help you achieve your goals. Of course, we also recognize that breastfeeding is not possible for some families in certain situations, that supplementation is sometimes medically appropriate, and that some mothers will decide not to breastfeed. Please know that regardless of the choice you make, we are here to support you in making the best decision for you and your baby.
