The Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett Imaging Center now features digital mammography as one of the diagnostic services offered to patients. This will provide the highest quality of care in the prevention and early detection of breast cancer in a setting dedicated specifically to the needs of outpatients.

A National Cancer Institute study shows that digital mammography may have advantages over film. For instance, digital mammography was shown to provide better images for women under the age of 50 and women with dense breasts. Digital mammography also uses less radiation than standard film mammograms.

“Digital mammography allows us to view and manipulate the images on high-resolution computer monitors that enhance visualizations of the structures within the breast tissue,” said radiologist Ronnie Warner, M.D. “We can zoom in to specific areas and adjust various settings to assist us in detecting signs of early cancer.”

Mammography plays a significant role in the early detection of breast cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 225,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. Yet thanks to early detection and treatment, 99 percent of those diagnosed with a localized breast cancer that has not spread reach the five-year survival rate.

In addition to digital mammography, the Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett Imaging Center also provides magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, digital X-Ray, and CT scan.
For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 820-7575.

Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett is now offering its InQuickER service at no charge. InQuickER is an emergency room service that facilitates patient satisfaction by allowing consumers to hold a place at the ER online, while waiting in the comfort of their own homes.

The patient can hold their place online by visiting https://inquicker.com/facility/saint-francis-hospital-bartlett. Upon completion of an online form, the patient arrives at the projected treatment time and will be seen by a health professional in the emergency room within 15 minutes. The service is only intended for individuals who have non-life threatening medical conditions.

“We know people want more convenience and communication in the ER experience,” explains Kem Mullins, Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett CEO. “While estimates and averages about emergency room wait times may vary, many emergency room patients end up waiting several hours in waiting rooms with no indication of when they’ll be seen With this service, users enjoy the convenience of choosing where they wait and a projected time to see a healthcare professional in the emergency room."

InQuickER does not affect the wait times of other emergency room patients, nor does it allow certain individuals to “cut” in front of others. Additionally, if the projected treatment time changes due to an influx of patients requiring priority treatment, the user will be notified and provided with an alternate time.

Increased demand and decreased capacity are creating traffic jams in ER waiting rooms across the country, according to the American College of Emergency Physicians. To address the growing need to deliver more efficient service, hospitals are utilizing InQuickER to streamline the throughput processes while focusing now, more than ever, on patient satisfaction.

InQuickER has designed safeguards in its system intended to prevent those who have potentially life-threatening medical conditions from using the InQuickER service. Individuals requiring immediate medical treatment should go to the nearest emergency department or call 911.

The hospital’s intensive care unit has doubled in size, two additional surgery suites are available, and ancillary services such as the pharmacy and laboratory have been relocated and expanded.

“The new beds will help us meet the healthcare needs of our community,” said Kem Mullins, Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett chief executive officer. “The 83,000 additional square feet of space will give us the space we need to grow our service lines. A dedicated orthopedic and spine unit, stroke and chest pain certification, and expanded women’s services will all be result of this facility expansion.”

In addition to Mullins, the ceremonial ribbon was cut by David Archer, Saint Francis Healthcare chief executive officer; Gwen Bonner, Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett chief operating officer; Melissa Kinard, Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett radiology technologist; Mayor Keith McDonald, City of Bartlett; Melvin Payne, Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett medical staff president; Brad Taylor, Tenet Healthcare director of business development; and Debra Taylor, Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett chief nursing officer. Hospital employees contributed items to a time capsule that will be sealed inside the walls of the new building.
