On June 9th, the employees of Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett and the Hoar Construction team held a "topping off" ceremony for the hospital’s facility expansion. The ceremony celebrated the completion of the highest part of the structure.

As part of the festivities, a bucket of concrete was hoisted to the top of the structure. This bucket was signed by members of the construction team as well as hospital employees. A holly tree was also placed at the top of the structure. This is a tradition that symbolizes that the project has proceeded well, without injury, and serves as a symbol of good luck moving forward. This holly tree will eventually become a part of the landscaping around the new facility.

The weather has been the big story this week. Mother Nature provided us with approximately eight inches of rain. Despite the inclement conditions, some construction efforts moved forward on our facility expansion. Wall metal stud framing and the penthouse structural frame work was done in the surgery expansion area. The East Tower scaffold and form system for the 3rd floor level has commenced. The North Tower's 2nd floor has had another portion concreted. Finally, the overbuild area of the North Tower has been prepped and a temporary roof system has been installed.

It is an exciting time on the Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett campus. Construction is moving forward on our 96-bed facility expansion project. This past week, Hoar Construction installed 100% of the new drainage underground from the existing loading dock storm water catch basin, along with the new storm water drainage manhole at the loading dock. In addition they stripped the tower site of the asphalt, concrete and curb and have "pulverized and mixed" the existing soil in preparation of fill material to create the building pad to the proper elevation. Existing utilities have also been located. The construction and engineering teams are working together to analyze what is needed to move forward with foundations.
