Saint Francis-Bartlett volunteer Bob Kennedy with his wife, Judy, after Bob was presented with the THA's Meritorious Service Award.
Prior to Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett opening in June, 2004, Bob Kennedy was already an important part of the hospital. As a volunteer, Bob stocked items, assisted with clerical work, and did whatever was asked of him to help ensure the hospital would be ready for patients. Since that time he has contributed over 2900 hours of volunteer service to Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett. As a result of his dedication, Bob was presented with the Tennessee Hospital Association’s 2006 Meritorious Service Award for Volunteers. Kennedy is one of just two volunteers in Tennessee presented with this award in 2006.
Kennedy, 73, has been retired since 1995. His desire to improve the quality of life in the community led him to volunteer at Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett. He averages approximately 27 hours of volunteer service each week assisting in a variety of departments including customer/volunteer service, education and information systems.
Ken Mullins, chief executive officer, said, "Bob exemplifies the mission of our hospital, 'To enhance the health and well-being of the community we serve' by assisting personnel, patients or families as needed.”
“I can’t think of a person more deserving of this award than Bob Kennedy,” said Jane Garrett, director of customer/volunteer services. “Bob has always gone above and beyond in doing whatever is needed for the patients and staff at Saint Francis-Bartlett. He is an extremely valuable asset to our hospital.”
“I was surprised and honored to receive this recognition from the Tennessee Hospital Association,” said Bob Kennedy. “Volunteering at Saint Francis-Bartlett has been very rewarding for me. I have developed some great friendships and am proud to be able to commit my time, effort and dedication to contribute to the hospital’s growth."
Bob Kennedy serves on the boards of Saint Francis Hospital Auxiliary, First South Credit Union, and a University of Memphis athletic support group. His wife, Judy, is also a volunteer at Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett.
